How can we help
with Home Ownership?
Homebuyer Education Workshops
Home Buyer
Workshops provide an opportunity for first time home buyers to take a
comprehensive look at the home buying process. Participants learn the steps
needed to purchase a home (with an emphasis on budgeting and credit); personal
benefits and responsibilities of home ownership; local programs that provide
financing assistance to first-time buyers, and what to expect from lenders,
realtors, inspectors, and other housing professionals.
Financial Literacy Training
Successful money management skills are crucial to homeownership - both pre and
post-purchase. Poor credit remains as one of the largest barriers between
potential buyers and their first home. To address these concerns, CSRA EOA
provides group financial fitness workshops on topics such as banking, checking,
loans, budgeting, savings, and credit. The workshops empower participants to
take charge of their financial future, promote wise consumer choices, and assist
low-income families in accessing legitimate, affordable financial institutions
and credit. Individual counseling is available for those who need more extensive
assistance in developing a budget and repairing their credit.
Minor Home Repair
The Minor Home Repair Program provides funding for minor repair of
owner-occupied housing units so as to ensure the health and safety of the
homeowner, prevent further disrepair that could lead to a greater expense for
the homeowner, loss of affordable housing, and/or decreased property values.
Repairs may consist of minor structural and mechanical repair, emergency repair,
accessibility improvements, and minor repair related to deferred maintenance.
Eligible applicants include elderly (60 years or above) and/or disabled persons
whose repair needs do not exceed $1000.00.
Foreclosure Prevention Counseling
Foreclosure Prevention Counseling assists homeowners in danger of foreclosure
due to delinquent mortgage payments. In one on one sessions, counselors explore
the reasons for default, conduct a budget analysis with the homeowner, and serve
as a liaison between the homeowner and their mortgage company/loan servicer in
attempt to resolve the delinquency. Referrals for counseling are received from
the Credit Counseling Resource Center’s (CCRC) 1-888-995-HOPE hotline. After
initial phone counseling, CCRC counselors refer homeowners to CSRA EOA, Inc. who
request one on one assistance, or who have an issue that would best be handled
by a local agency rather than by phone.
